Candyland Play

Abi was beyond excited after her performance in Charlotte and Wilbur when she found out that she could be in one more play this year. The name of the play was Candyland - a production written by the 5th and 6th graders with a little help from Mrs. Van, the Drama teacher. The play was only open to Kindergarteners, 1st and 2nd graders. The kids did not have to audition for roles but instead the kids were divided into groups (types of candy) and assigned a director (a 5th or 6th grader who has been involved in previous drama productions).  Each child was given one line to recite and they had to learn and perform a choreographed dance as a group. Abi was in the lollipop group (one of the best in my humble opinion!)

Again, I couldn't be prouder of my little actress - her confidence on stage is amazing and I am so happy that she has been given these opportunities to express her cute and ever-growing personality.
Headed into the auditorium for her performance
The Lollipop Girls
Almost time to perform...
In case you can't tell, Abi is the one in the front at the beginning of the video.
(Sorry about the quality - apparently it was too bright from all the lights)

Brady and Chase kept themselves busy by dancing to the music and making each other laugh!

A big thank you to everyone who came to support and see Abi perform!
Abi and I made rainbow cupcakes for the cast after party - they were a big hit with the kids!

Another Girl!!!

It's official...the Doehne women will outnumber the men when our little girl is born at the beginning of October!  We got the news at my ultrasound on Friday.  This was a bit of a shock to Brady who was certain that we were having a boy....
Brady listening to the baby via a stethoscope on my belly.
After about 10 seconds, he looked up at me and said, "Sounds like a boy!"

The kids joined us for the ultrasound so they could share in the news.  Needless to say, Abi was excited to hear that she was having a baby sister but Brady wasn't sure what to make of the ultrasound pictures.  At one point, I heard him say that the baby looked like Captain Hook! :)

So, now the fun of painting and decorating Brady's room begins and the process of moving Brady into Abi's room starts. Wish me luck!!!

Lake Chelan

We had a fun trip to Chelan this year.  Josh joined us for a few days and the kids and I stayed with Arizona Grandma and Grandpa for the remainder of the week.  Although no one in the Doehne family got sick this year, the curse continued and Grandpa came down with the flu for a couple of days - thankfully no one else got sick.  The weather was decent - a bit of everything - sun, rain, wind - but we still managed to do and see a lot.  Thanks to Grandma and Grandpa for a fun time!
We had to stop by and get some chocolate at Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory
in Leavenworth for the last leg of our road trip
...and stop at the winery to pick up some wine (and a ride on the tire swing!)
We took a walk on the Riverwalk,
went swimming on the few days it was warm enough to go in the pool,
Grandpa throwing Abi in the pool.
This was one of my favorite things to do with my Dad when we went to Lake Chelan.  My brother and I would beg my Dad to get in the pool with us and "throw us up in the air".

and spent many days at the playground.

On one of the cloudy days, we headed to Rocky Reach Dam to see the salmon ladder and check out the dam and museum.

On the windy days, we flew our new kite &
went fishing (although we were unsuccessful at catching anything).
On the rainy day, we headed to the local bowling alley - thank goodness for bumpers!

And spent the other times, finding "treasures", climbing rocks and playing on the beach.
On Josh's last night, he and Abi took a few hours to drive around and take pictures of the beautiful scenery of Lake Chelan - these are just a couple of the good ones!

Happy Mother's Day!

The kids started their Mother's Day weekend in Bellingham at a kid's fishing derby with Ferryboat Grandma.

Both kids successfully caught a fish!
As you can see, they have both been busy practicing their casting skills for the big event...

On Sunday, we made our annual Mother's Day trip to Bellevue Botanical Gardens.

The "required" frog pictures! :)

Rattlesnake Lake Hike

This year Josh and I celebrated my birthday by taking a hike at Rattlesnake Lake.  It has been a hike that I have wanted to go on for some time so when we had a weekend without the kids (thanks Ferryboat Grandma!) with decent weather, we took full advantage. Being pregnant, we took quite a few water breaks on the way up, but once we made it, the views of the lake, trees and  mountains made it worth with the trip!
