After lots of practice and hard work, Abi scored her first soccer goal tonight. As her coach, teammates, other parents and I jumped up and down with excitement, I started to tear up. It sounds silly to get emotional over one goal in a recreational soccer game played by 8 year olds but for Abi, it was so much more than that. It was a goal that she had been working on since she began playing over two years ago. The skills needed to play soccer do not come natural or easy for Abi so the fact that she worked so hard and never gave up makes it even more special. As her Mom, I could not be prouder of her perseverance!
A special thanks to Abi's coach for also making it possible. She cheered her on during the good games while encouraging her during the bad ones. Regardless she always tried to put her in a position to succeed. Thanks Coach Mary!
